If you’re here you probably can relate to how Instagram growth can be frustrating. Well this period might be the best to start reach your goal. With the COVID 19 pandemic, people are stuck at home and social media platforms are crowded with people looking for entertainment. I personally decided to grow my own pages because it seemed like a platform I could easily exploit to get traffic and do marketing for my e-commerce businesses and I was tired of paying influencers who always posed the risk of failing to get me traffic. It was around November 2019 and at that time my most selling product was a moon lamp. I made an account on Instagram to try and increase my revenue, followed some YouTube videos and bought two courses but I failed.

That November I tried again to find my own traffic a store in which I was selling a backpack for selling pets. Again, I could only succeed through marketing elsewhere and not on Instagram. I made pages for different brands most of them never grew did not grow fast enough to aid me in marketing my products.

I went on Facebook groups and Quora to ask for help in. A young man reached out and told me and he said he could help and he gets clients through Facebook and twitter. He told me what he thought was missing and how he plans on changing it so I hired him for a very decent price.

A lot of variables come in play when it comes to getting account growth and getting your desired response by the viewers of your content from what I began to learn:

  • The algorithm

The algorithm is two sided, you can benefit greatly or fail drastically because of it. And to top it off it is constantly being changed so you would need to constantly do research on in as you go. Right now it prioritizes posts based on how people engaged on it I the first hour.

  • Hashtags
A purple picture with a white Instagram icon, white hashtag icon and white heart icon

Without mining for the proper hashtags, you probably won’t go that far in terms of getting noticed. You have to find the correct hashtags for your niche. The best way of doing this is to mix the ones from pages with large followings but not exceeding 500 000 and other ones used by smaller pages. So since the maximum hashtags you can add is 30, the preferable mix would be 5 from big pages, 10 from medium sized pages (30 000 to 90 000) and 15 from pages below 30 000. You should can also make your hashtag which you add as the 30th one in your posts. At first this might not help you, but when you grow, people will also start using your hashtag. This will help you a lot because whenever a person clock in the hashtag, most of the past that are under that tag are yours and this will increase engagement on your posts and page.

Hashtags have the potential of rapidly increasing your growth if chosen carefully. To go the extra mile, you can use tools to investigate how each hashtag is performing. This would help you to only add the most performing hashtags only. So if you find like three sets or more of 30s, each set meant for a specific posting time, your growth might be rapid. I personally never did this myself, but I’ve worked with a freelancer who recently opened a gig on fiver. You can check him out Here if you want to take it to the next level:

  • Posting time

People always say you should just post 2 to 3 times a day and you’ll be fine. While that is partially correct, what you should aiming for is what time to post those two to three posts. Because the this is, if you’re growing your page for things like getting organic traffic for your e-commerce business like myself, you need your growth to be a bit fast because your product might get saturated before you reach reasonable amount of eyeballs. As I have mentioned above, the amount of engagement you get within the first few hours or minutes after posting will determine how much the Instagram algorithm will promote your post. When I contacted a manager for my pages, he gave me a graph which showed the times which my target audience were most active throughout the days of the week on Instagram. This made it easier for me to get enough engagement on my posts for the algorithm to promote them after he had handed me back the pages.

  • Follow for follow

A lot of people might tell you that this method of gaining followers is not effective in 2020, I understand this perspective because I was also convinced it was a thing of the past. But that isn’t entirely true. The thing is, as I came to realize, most people did it the wrong way to start with. For example I used to just go and follow whoever was following a similar page in my niche with a million followers on it. When I hired a freelance manager, I noticed that he did it differently so I asked him why he had a different approach. I was amazed with the logic behind it. So the logic was, the followers of a very big page are not the most loyal followers in that niche, they might not engage or follow your page in the long run. There is also the thing if content quality, in most cases what you post won’t match up to what a big page posts. And again those followers will prefer buying what the bigger page is promoting than what you’re promoting and this is a “trust the numbers” kind of thing.

So which followers should you get them?

You should follow the people who like posts by pages that are similar or worse than your page in terms of audiences and content quality. You’ll be surprised by how much this works. You won’t only get a higher follow back rate but you’ll likely get a loyal following who will support your business. This is simply because for then to follow low quality content pages, they would have to really enjoy this niche and you come as the better alternative to them unlike when they are coming from a bigger and probably better page. There is a limit of the people you can follow and unfollow per day, I don’t know what Instagram bases this on but I think a rough estimates would be 300 or 400 at most per day.

  • Your page

The other thing that will get the algorithm working in your favor is what you write in your bio and other sections on the face of your page. The algorithm shows similar pages to the same audiences. So for your page to appear to the right audience, you have to take a look at the keywords used by successful pages in your niche and use them too. You can do this manually by looking at bios one by one of find a tool that can help you. For my pages, the manager I hired copied many bios, and pasted them on a tool that highlights the most used keywords. The other thing to do is to also follow some pages in your niche as this also aids in the familiarization of your page.

  • Triggering engagement

You want make sure that you get your audiences engaged from the get go. This is very helpful because you’ll get a lot of useful feedback from your audiences and when you start marketing, you’ll get a lot of engagement. Here you have to get creative or copy what other pages are doing. For my pages, I was told to continue writing post descriptions that required the post viewers to take action on the post. Like asking were in the house they think the piece of furniture I posted would complement the most. But the most important engagement you can get is people sharing your content. In the month I was he was running my pages he would constantly change the type of content he posted. This confused me because a pattern of the posts that were getting likes was starting to show yet he never consistently followed it in the first 3 weeks. It started making sense to me when the pattern of pots that where being shared was now showing. Posts with 500 shares would get up to 17 000 pairs of eyeballs. And this also brought along a steady increase in the amount of followers. The only difficult part of this strategy is establishing the pattern in the first place. So whenever I start a new page this, among a few other reasons, is why I hire him in the first few weeks of the page.

  • Stories and highlights

Stories are very powerful in terms of familiarizing your viewers to your content. Try making sure that you always have a story. Your page will always be visible to your fans and this increases the amount of page views and engagement on your page. The other thing that you can do is to take advantage of the story features like polls, quizzes, hashtags and so on. For example, I always use polls two ask my fans which product they would prefer between two products. You should also add organised highlights. If you do these properly, you can monetize the feature and benefit a lot. My pages were set up in a way that there is a special offers highlight. This is where I place all the seasonal discounts. I use the other one to inform my followers about the processes of purchasing and shipping. Like right now when there is this whole COVID 19 pandemic, I’m using it to tell them about where the product are coming from and how long they might take to arrive. This overally helps with increasing trust.

  • Shout- outs

Truly getting other pages in your niche to shout you out from time to time, most pages will ask for some sort of fee. But if you dig deep enough, there are some who will do it for you for free.

  • Quality content

I assume you already know this so I won’t stress on it that much. You might have the best methods of bringing people to your page, but if you don’t have quality content people won’t stick around for that long. There are many sources of quality copyright free images and you can get an idea of what to post from your competition. If you’re growing your page to promote products, you must not overcrowd your page with your products only. Remember that people come to Instagram to entertain themselves and they might end up buying in the process. Not the other way around.

  • Analytics

Make sure you monitor your analytics, see what people react to and they don’t. Take into account the type of audience you have, like their sex, age group, location and so on. My manager would go the extra mile and search the correct keywords to use in the post description based on the kind of audience I have to get the most engagement and growth.

That’s all I have for now. Good luck in your journey and I hope you reach the top. If you want to take it to the next level just click on this hyperlink:
